North Dakota History:

North Dakota has a long storied history even though it is a state that is parsley populated. North Dakota has served as a home to various Native American tribes since before recorded history. Once the new world was discovered fur traders, trappers, mountain men, and frontiersman made their way south from Canada to make their riches from the vast resources that the land of North Dakota held. Obviously, this created some minor and some major skirmishes with the Native Americans who called this place home. This was the first time that the land was stained red with blood not for survival but due to fear. This was the way of life for quite some time until the arrival of the railroad.

The railroad stretched across North Dakota as a way to bring supplies back to the East Coast. With the railroads came the first pioneers to settle new land that had been surveyed by Lewis and Clarke. The dream of Manifest Destiny had taken hold of Americans minds and hearts. This dream brought not only new people and opportunities but new armies and technologies. This brought about new blood and scars being laid upon the land. Many of these scars can still be seen today.

Once the army had won their war against Native Americans the Native Americans were placed on reservations and the progress of making the Dakota Territory into states would begin. Eventually the states of North Dakota, South Dakota, Montana, and Wyoming would be formed from parts of the Dakota Territory. Once North Dakota became a state there were a few incidents but the state was largely ignored. That is until the 1920s and the arrival of the Camarilla. Until the arrival of Capone.

Kindred History of North Dakota:

Capone used North Dakota as a means to funnel Canadian Whiskey back to Chicago. The Camarilla encouraged Capone in his endeavors to secure a new means of wealth and power in Chicago. The steady supply of alcohol is one of the many ways Capone created his empire. Minot was nicknamed "Little Chicago" and Capone brought not only alcohol but gambling, prostitution, bribery, and other forms of debauchery. He had an underground network of tunnels built to help get the alcohol he was smuggling from Canada to Chicago. This helped Capone earn his embrace.

However, before Capone was embraced his empire crumbled when he was arrested. This left an opening in an otherwise uncontested land. But the Sabbat had plans. A Palla Grande was to be held in Minot. The Sabbat had plans to spread their influence back into North America. The year of the Palla Grande was 1947. The Sabbat steamrolled through the state and arrived in Minot. They began the Palla Grande by having a mass embrace. The event was a huge success and the Sabbat enjoyed their new stronghold in North Dakota.

In 1951, oil was discovered in North Dakota. With this new resource the Sabbat now had a way to ensure that their grip upon the area would come undone. They used the money they made from oil to control the government and its people. A rather simple task since the population at this time were mostly farmers. This isn't to say that farmers are stupid. On the contrary, they are extremely smart and hard working people. What they are, however, is superstitious. And superstition is one advantage that the Sabbat can use to control their cattle.

For many decades the Sabbat ruled North Dakota with no rival. That is until the oil boom in 2009. With the oil boom, the Camarilla once again placed its eye on North Dakota. The Ventrue had let an area of great wealth slip from their grasp. A mistake they surely did not intend on repeating. They learned quickly that the Sabbat had a firm hold on the area when they received the ashes of the first Kindred they sent to establish domain from a dominated individual. This injustice would not go unpunished.

The Giovanni to had a sudden interest in North Dakota. Long had they dipped their fingers into the honey pot in North Dakota. Finance being the name of the game for the Giovanni, farmers needed their help from time to time to help continue their operations. Now with local governments looking to expand and grow infrastructure at an exponential rate the Giovanni were poised to do what they do best: exploit secrets to gain control. New companies were established and required financing as well. The Giovanni already having a small foothold in the area were only to eager to expand their operations. The Giovanni's ally, the Setites, were also eager to see to the needs of men moving to a desolate, cold, unforgiving place. Sex and drugs were soon to be found in quick supply in oil country. With any luck the western half of the state would be under the complete control of the IA. The IA have set up a casino and have laid claim to Devil's Lake.

Other Supernaturals

Werewolves have long existed in North Dakota. In particular, the Wendigo tribe, associated with the Native American Nations that call North Dakota home, is by far the most numerous. Long have the stalked and protected the many numerous holy sites. Two areas of note that the Werewolves control are Lake Sakakawea and Roosevelt National Park are patrolled and protected by werewolves. This will often put Kindred square in their crosshairs as oil country weaves through both these areas. It is a dangerous territory to be sure but well prepared Kindred should find that they can escape the claws of the wolves.

Mages to from time to time have moved through the area. Sometimes they settle briefly but they seem to leave almost as quickly as they appear. What are they searching for?

Several trods can be found across North Dakota. Though they have not been accessed in some time. Will the Changelings discover this long kept secret? Will Changelings return to lay claim to those few places of access to the Dreaming? Only time will tell it seems.
